Development of competition in the natural gas market: a way forward to economic growth

The natural gas market of Ukraine faces many problems including a lack of free competition and extensive administrative barriers to market entry. To address these issues, the Competition Development Foundation held a roundtable on May 14, 2015 involving local and international experts from relevant fields. Their conclusions included provisions requiring the liberalization of the natural gas market and the subsequent determination of the real market price of natural gas. To achieve these goals, the Competition Development Foundation, with assistance from the Expert Council, made recommendations to relevant government bodies. Role of the AMCU, competition policy and legislation at the present stage of economic reforms in Ukraine

Ukraine currently faces an important period of reform whose success are integral to the economic progression of Ukraine. The AMCU plays an fundamental role in these reforms. Thus, the Competition Development Foundation held a roundtable, on May 14, 2015, regarding competition policy during this period of reform. Discussion centered around reducing barriers to market entry for external investment and increasing the effectiveness of competition law and its enforcement. The development of effective relations between Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine (AMCU) and business: economic concentrations

Though Ukrainian law regarding competition is based on European legal principles and tradition, the law and its application require further improvement. As a result, the Competition Development Foundation held a roundtable on the 29th of July, 2015, in relation to this issue. Discussion centered around effective relations between business and the AMCU, specifically regarding mergers and merger control. Development of transparent relationships between the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine and business: providing transparency and foreseeability of AMCU operations

An important issue within the realm of competition law in Ukraine is the predictability and transparency of the Anti-Monopoly Committee of Ukraine (AMCU). Subsequently, the Competition Development Foundation organized and hosted a roundtable on September 9, 2015 regarding this issue. Important topics of discussion included drafting standardized principles for the imposition of fines on undertakings for their violations of economic competition. The Competition Development Foundation, with the assistance of the expert council among other experts, amended the draft law the AMCU submitted regarding the aforementioned issue.
